Governance

Sussex Christian School is a ministry of the Sussex Wesleyan Church. As a ministry of Sussex Wesleyan Church, the Sussex Christian School is accountable to the Local Board of Administration (LBA) of Sussex Wesleyan Church. The governing body of the school, under the authority of Sussex Wesleyan Church LBA, is the Sussex Christian School Council.

As the sole legislative body of Sussex Christian School, the Council exists to:

  1. Implement the objectives of Sussex Christian School;
  2. Provide direction and serve in an advisory role to the Administration of Sussex Christian School;
  3. Serve as a representative board to the parents and friends of Sussex Christian School.

The Sussex Christian School Council consists of the Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, the Senior Pastor of Sussex Wesleyan Church (ex officio), a representative of the Administration of Sussex Christian School and between three and six members-at-large. Council members are nominated by a committee appointed by the Council, approved by the Sussex Wesleyan LBA, and elected by the constituency of the SCS parents and staff. Fifty percent of the elected members must be members of a Wesleyan church, and the Council Chair must be a member of Sussex Wesleyan.

Sussex Christian School is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). ACSI offers accreditation programs for both schools and teachers. As a registered member of this association, SCS receives annual teacher and board training. With world-wide Christian education experience, ASCI is able to provide excellent resources and advice for current educational issues. ACSI allows SCS to build relationships with other Christian Schools, their boards and staff.
